Yorkshire solar energy firm reveals expansion plans

A south Yorkshire-based solar energy firm is planning to create as many as 300 new jobs through an ambitious expansion strategy.

Nationwide Solar and sister company A Shade Greener have received backing from Enterprising Barnsley to help fund the proposal, after the organisations grew from eight to 120 members of staff in a year.

Money from the European Regional Development Fund will go towards the businesses, which have promised they will interview anyone from the local area for the jobs who has been out of work for at least three months.

Nationwide Solar director Russ Cowan stated that the help of Enterprising Barnsley has been "invaluable" for the solar energy firm.

"We are trying to make south Yorkshire the renewable energy capital of the UK. So we can do our bit for the environment and create jobs. It is a win-win situation," he said.

Last week, the Confederation of British Industry's director-general Richard Lambert stated that UK energy policy needs to move forward.
