WWF welcomes Mitsubishi's renewable energy investment

The WWF has voiced its pleasure at the announcement by Mitsubishi that it is to build a new renewable energy centre in Scotland.

It was revealed that as many as 200 high-end jobs could be created at the facility, which is to be located in Edinburgh.

Dr Richard Dixon, director of WWF Scotland, stated that the decision demonstrates that the country is a major player in the world of renewable energy and particularly singled out hydroelectricity as a potential branch of future development.

"It shows the huge opportunities we have to develop the green technologies that will play an essential role in global efforts to tackle climate change while also helping build a low-carbon economy for Scotland," he said.

Dr Dixon added that the renewable energy plan should also act as a final nail in the coffin for a proposed coal-fired power station at Hunterston.

Last week, a new partnership called the Green Port Hull project claimed to be making the city the renewable energy hub of the UK.
