UK 'has world's most ambitious renewable energy plans'

The UK is becoming a more attractive place for investors looking to move forward with renewable energy developments.

This is according to the head of offshore energy at trade association RenewableUK Peter Madigan, who stated that there are more ongoing renewable energy developments in the Britain than anywhere else in the world.

Speaking to the Guardian, he pointed out that the UK also has the highest amount of installed offshore wind energy.

Mr Madigan predicted that offshore wind farms will be met with less resistance from environmental groups such as Friends of the Earth when compared to their onshore cousins.

He added that the UK's engineering industry is providing people with the skills and knowledge to move the renewable energy projects further forward.

Earlier this week, the London Evening Standard reported that UK energy minister Charles Hendry told a Westminster Hall event that the British coalition government is committed to the future of renewable energy
