Solar energy firm reports boom

Solar power company SolarCentury has announced that business is booming and it is expecting to expand over the coming months.

It stated that it now employs around 350 people, almost double the number it did at the start of the year.

SolarCentury now expects that 500 people will be employed at the firm by the end of 2010 as it continues to expand.

Seb Berry, head of public affairs for SolarCentury, explained that the new feed-in-tariff is already having a positive effect on renewable energy.

"The feed-in tariff means that UK PV companies can plan with confidence, invest for the future and take on many more staff as the market continues to grow in a sustained way," he said.

According to SolarCentury, solar panels can be used to generate renewable energy in the UK, despite the often miserable weather.

It states that the firm would not have stayed in business for more than a decade if the technology was faulty.
