Solar panels Renewable energy specialist Taylor Hopkinson has said the sector is expanding at a rapid rate.

According to managing director Tom Hopkinson, this is creating a surge in demand for skilled labour jobs.

Speaking to the Aberdeen Press and Journal, he noted that this is also leading to more operational and senior management roles in the industry.

However, Mr Hopkinson said there are still some skills shortages in the renewable energy sector.

"This represents a great opportunity for people with the relevant transferable skills," he commented.

Mr Hopkinson added that "the next generation of talent" who are still in education and planning their future careers could also benefit from this expansion.

Meanwhile, Scottish first minister Alex Salmond has outlined some of the economic advantages of switching to more renewable energy sources.

The SNP leader said creating a low-carbon economy presents "enormous opportunities" for investment and growth that must be seized by businesses in Scotland.
