Renewable energy 'can create thousands of new jobs'

Renewable energy developments in the UK have the potential to create tens of thousands of green jobs.

This is according to James Murray, editor of BusinessGreen.com, who stated that the cost of renewable energy is set to drop over the coming years.

He explained that this is because supply is increasing, with companies starting up new renewable energy developments in the UK all the time.

Mr Murray added that the job market can "absolutely" receive a boost from the expansion of the renewable energy industry.

"It's a labour-intensive market and as a result its expansion should result in tens of thousands of new jobs," he said.

The comments come after it was announced that Vatenfall's Thanet wind farm is to open off the coast of Kent later this month.

It will become the largest offshore wind farm in the world once it is fully operational, with 200,000 homes being powered by the 100 turbines.
