Phoenix Solar AG has announced that it is to construct a new solar power plant in Italy.

The Munich-based corporation will build a 3.5MW ground-mounted photovoltaic plant in Borgo Piave for Canadian energy firm Etrion, which it will also supply with maintenance and operation services once the facility is up and running.

Ulrich Reidenbach, chief sales officer of Phoenix Solar AG, said: "We are delighted that Etrion has chosen Phoenix Solar for our expertise in constructing large scale solar parks. We hope to continue our cooperation in the near future with additional projects."

Marco Northland, chief executive officer of Etrion, added that his company is pleased to have selected Phoenix Solar to build the new solar power plant.

This comes shortly after Reuters reported that Enel's Archimede solar power facility has now opened in Sicily, with a production target of 5MW.

Research chief Sauro Pasini explained to the news provider that around 4,000 Italian homes will be provided with their energy from the plant.
