The Green Party has urged the government to invest in wind energy, because such a move has been successful elsewhere in Europe.

A spokesman for the political party stated that Denmark could be one example to follow in order to create a lot of green jobs over the course of the next decade.

"If we generated the same proportion of our electricity from wind farms as Denmark does - and at the rate of growth Denmark has achieved - we'd create about 200,000 jobs by 2020," he said.

The spokesman added that wind power is a better sector of the green industry to concentrate on than carbon capture and storage.

He explained that this is because it could only create around 50,000 jobs by 2030.

The comments come shortly after the Committee on Climate Change released a report which urged the government to protect funding for projects in the green technology sector.

It noted that if funding is cut, many products may be unable to make it into the marketplace.
