Government encourages renewable energy investments

People will be encouraged to use renewable energy in their properties after the government's Spending Review last week.

This is according to climate change minister Greg Barker, who stated that all the homes in the UK need to be refurbished for them to be more energy-efficient, which he said will be a "huge challenge".

He explained that the Spending Review contained details of the government's Green Deal which will push people towards renewable energy investments.

"We want to make sure that when people do the Green Deal and improve the energy efficiency of their homes, they also take the opportunity to fit microgeneration or renewable heat," he said.

As well as the Green Deal, chancellor George Osborne announced that £1 billion of public money will be used to set up a new green investment bank, which will offer funding to firms in the renewable energy industry.

Mr Barker stated that he was pleased the chancellor has chosen to invest in a green future.
