Government 'needs to do more to support renewable energy'

The renewable energy industry needs more support from the UK government.

This is the opinion of Daniel Green, chief executive officer of government-backed scheme HomeSun, who stated that it is "great" the state is looking into ways to make properties more efficient through the use of renewable energy.

But he called for a larger, long-term investment into renewable energy developments.

"The government must be long-sighted and make an investment in this country now that they will reap back just in the same way that the consumer will reap back benefits from their investment in efficiency," he said.

Mr Green added that it is obvious the government is beginning to accept the importance of renewable energy schemes through its programmes such as the feed-in tariff, which it elected to maintain earlier this year.

He was commenting after the Department of Energy and Climate Change revealed that insulation is to be added to British homes to make them more energy efficient.
