Friends of the Earth calls for renewable energy investment

Friends of the Earth has once more called for the government to spend more money on developing the renewable energy industry.

With the coalition set to announce a major spending review next month, Friends of the Earth's campaigns and policy director Craig Bennett has taken the opportunity to reiterate the organisation's call for more investment in the sector.

"Now is the time to be increasing renewable energy - nothing would do more damage to investor confidence than for the government to raise doubts about long-term support for the industry," he said.

Mr Bennett explained that the government has been making promises about renewable energy for years.

He added that by spending money on the renewable energy sector, green jobs will be created, boosting the country's economy.

The chair of the Committee on Climate Change Lord Turner recently wrote to UK energy and climate change minister Chris Huhne to ask the government to devote more money to renewable energy, a move which was supported by Friends of the Earth.
