The outlook for clean European energy has been described as positive by the chief executive officer of BNP Paribas Clean Energy Partners.

Joost Bergsma stated that investors believe the renewable energy sector all over the continent to be ripe for growth.

In an emailed statement to Bloomberg, he added that the team "has access to a deep pipeline of attractive investment opportunities".

It is thought that the London-based fund is set to look towards renewable energy developments such as onshore wind farms, small hydro and biomass generators and solar power plants.

BNP Paribas Clean Energy Partners has already raised a total of 437 million euros (£370 million), far exceeding its original aim of 350 million euros.

Speaking to the Scottish Renewables conference in Inverness recently, Gareth Davies, chairman of Scottish Renewables' marine work group, stated that a lack of grid connections could be holding investors back from the renewable energy sector.
