Wind energy development sites in the UK have
been given out by the Crown Estate.
It has been announced that the Gunfleet Sands extension is to be
handled by DONG Energy, while National Renewable Energy Centre Ltd will take control of
the Blyth Offshore Wind Demonstration site.
Two Scottish wind energy development sites have also been
handed out with exclusivity awards - Methil Offshore Wind Farm to
2-B Energy and European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre to Aberdeen
Offshore Wind.
Rob Hastings, director of marine estate at The Crown Estate
said: "Technical innovation is essential to cutting offshore wind
costs. We are pleased that this is another positive step to help
further grow the UK's capacity for secure offshore wind energy."
Earlier this week, Vestas announced that it has won a
manufacturing contract in the wind energy sector.
It will produce 22 V90-3.0 MW wind turbines to be used at Devon
Wind Power's Fullabrook Wind Farm.
