London, UK – 7 October 2010: The Zayed Future Energy Prize, an annual US$ 2.2 Million recognition prize for innovation, leadership and sustainability in renewable energy solutions, has announced the details of a Workshop on New Energy Solutions at the upcoming European Future Energy Forum 2010, in London on 20 October. The Forum is designed to forge direct business links between the world’s leading companies and investors to promote the adoption of renewable energy solutions and showcase future energy projects and partnerships in Europe.
The 20 October Workshop will present experts in the fields of technology, finance and energy to discuss the economics and global commitments necessary to achieve sustainable low-carbon economies. The scale of investment required to make the shift from dependency on fossil fuels to a low-carbon economy is substantial – US$ 500 billion per year, if CO2 emissions are to be reduced to acceptable levels by 2030.  The role of private capital in meeting this milestone is crucial. Renewable energy solutions, not yet cost competitive with fossil fuels, will increase their investment appeal as they reach scale and gain operating experience.
