John Cavalier, Co-Managing Partner of Hudson, is jointly responsible for managing the affairs of Hudson with Mr. Neil Auerbach. Mr. Cavalier was formerly Vice Chairman of Credit Suisse's Investment and Corporate Banking Department, Chairman of the Global Energy Group and Founder/Head of Credit Suisse's Global Renewable Energy Group. Under Mr. Cavalier's leadership, the Renewable Energy Group became Wall Street's leading global Finance and Advisory Group to the Clean Energy space. The Group led the initial public offerings of SunPower, Suntech, REC (U.S. tranche), Cosan, First Solar, EnerNOC, Iberdrola Renovables and others. The Group also led strategic advisories and financings for Airtricity, FPL Wind, Hawkeye, and many other major solar, wind and biofuels companies. Mr. Cavalier served as the lead financial advisor to these companies. Mr. Cavalier joined Credit Suisse in November 2000 when the Firm merged with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (“DLJ”), where he was a Managing Director and a founding member of DLJ's Power and Energy Group. Since its inception in 1990, that group focused on financing, restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions within the energy sector, which was a continuation of the work Mr. Cavalier performed at his predecessor firm, Drexel Burnham Lambert. Prior to his time at Drexel, Mr. Cavalier served in the U.S. Army for nine years where he was an officer in the Signal Corps, and later the Judge Advocate Generals Corps. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his role as the first Senior Defense Counsel for the Northeastern United States. John sits on the Chairman’s Council of ACORE, is Chairman of the Cleantech Group of the not-for-profit New York City Investment Fund, and is on the Board of Trustees of the not-for-profit International Brain Research Foundation. Mr. Cavalier serves on the Board of Directors of Hudson portfolio companies Element Power, SoloPower and Eagle Creek. Mr. Cavalier has earned degrees with honors from the U.S. Military Academy, the University of Illinois School of Law, and Harvard Business School.
