Mr Giacomo Benvenuti
CTO
3D-Oxides and Founder, ABCD Technologies
Giacomo Benvenuti was born in Geneva (Switzerland) in 1969. After completing his high school in "Lycée Interational of Ferney-Voltaire" (France), he achieved a "Laurea in Fisica" (Physics and Material Science) at the University of Milano (Italy) with his diploma work on “High brilliance photo-cathodes” carried out at CERN (1996). He then acted as a consultant in materials science in Milano for various companies before undergoing a PhD in EPFL Lausanne (Switzerland) on "Chemical Beam Deposition of TiO2 thin films" (1998-2003). In parallel to a post-doc in EPFL on wet ability, he then started a consultant activity in materials science and incorporated his first company ABCD Technology Sarl in 2006. The company was built to exploit the results of G. Benvenuti PhD thesis towards the manufacturing of new equipment for deposition of thin films with a laser-assisted process. The technology was brought to maturity within 3 FP6 European projects where he acted as the company CTO. In 2008, he co-founded Socrate Industrie, a company involved in manufacturing customized equipments for various fields of application ranging from several vacuum deposition systems (sputtering, CVD, CBE, etc..), to medical implants, or metrology systems. In 2010 he co-founded 3D-oxides a further company, this one involved in the development of new complex oxide thin film materials. The main asset of this later company is the capacity to achieve complex 3D-shaped materials with new 3D architecture concepts enabling to target disruptive properties in several emerging fields like optronics, photonics, microelectronics, catalysis, photovoltaics, or fuel cells. All the 3 companies are today working hand in hand to provide a new vision, tools, and materials to foster new functionalities with sustainable production processes in tomorrow society.
